Melrose Park Engine Plant & Technical Center

The Melrose Park Engine Plant and Technical Center was originally constructed in 1941 and produced 75,000 engines during World War II for B-24 Liberator Bombers. In 1946, Navistar Harvester, now Navistar Truck and Engine Corporation, purchased the plant for its construction equipment and engine businesses and began engineering, manufacturing and assembling a variety of diesel engines and construction equipment products throughout the next four decades. In 1975, it introduced its wet-sleeved DT 466, setting a new standard for medium duty diesels with its long life to overhaul and in-chassis rebuildability. A few years later, it introduced the 6.9-liter V-8 diesel for Navistar trucks and Ford heavy pickup trucks and vans.

Today, the Melrose Park Plant produces the MaxxForce DT (the legendary DT 466), MaxxForce 9 and MaxxForce 10 on its 1.5 million sq. ft. manufacturing floor. These engines, built on Navistar’s proven I-6 platform, are known for their legendary reliability, wide range of vocational capabilities, durability and industry-leading residual value which add up to high-value and low cost of ownership for owners of Class 6-7 trucks and buses.

The Melrose Park Engine Plant is ISO/TS 16949 certified and the Technical Center is ISO 9001 and QS 9000 certified.
